About
Chips and tChips
Two currencies: Chips, backed by wsNET at 1 wsNET = 1,000,000 Chips, and tChips, test chips with no value that can never be redeemed or turned into Chips.
Every game is played with one or the other, never both.
tChips: claim 10,000, then top up to 10,000 once every 24 hours.
Guests can claim tChips and play without signing in. Signing in later, with an email or a wallet, keeps their tChips.
Deposits and redemptions of real Chips are not open yet.
Leaderboards
Each ranked play costs the game's entry. A period's entries form its prize pool.
When the period ends, the top places are paid by the game's prize split, and the house keeps the game's cut. Each game's entry, cut and split are fixed when it's listed and never change.
Practice costs the game's practice price. It is never ranked and never joins a pool.
Each player's best score counts. A tie goes to whoever set the score first.
In a time trial, the lowest time wins. A run that doesn't finish never ranks.
Free Plays
During the beta every game is played with tChips. Winners will receive Free Plays once the platform is live with wsNET.
Each tChips leaderboard period's paid places earn Free Plays by place.
A Free Play is one ranked play on a Chips leaderboard with the entry waived. Free Plays never expire.
Guests earn them too, and keep them when they sign in with an email or a wallet.
Every award is made by the database from the leaderboard's own results, and can never be changed.
Fair play
The server decides every score, by replaying your inputs with the game's own rules. What your browser shows never counts.
Everyone in a period plays the same course. Where a course changes each period, it's handed over only a little ahead of where you are, so nobody can learn it ahead of play.
Your inputs reach the server every 2 seconds, and a run must keep pace with real time: no slowing down, speeding up or pausing. Leaving a run ends it.
Each game limits how many inputs a second count. Runs that look automated are flagged, and any run can be watched again exactly.
A game's rules never change once played: a new version is added instead, and old runs keep replaying on the rules they were played on.
How it's built
Every chip is in a double-entry ledger (pgledger, open source) inside one Postgres database. The database itself refuses any move not backed by its record (a claim, an entry, a prize, a deposit, a redemption), and nothing is ever edited or deleted.
Each part of the platform logs in to the database with only the permissions its job needs.
Sign in with an 8-digit email code or by signing a message with a wallet. No passwords.
Deposit addresses will be Safes on Robinhood Chain, made only from existing audited contracts (Safe 1.5.0 with Zodiac Roles 2.1.1), with no contract code of our own.
